Nepenthes (veitchii X Tiveyi) X maxima dark is a complex hybrid involving N. veitchii X N. tiveyi (N. maxima X N. veitchii) and N. maxima dark. This particular clone was made by Tristan's Carnivorous Plants. I grow it as a highlander outdoors with no problems. It looks a lot like N. maxima dark but with a more vaulted peristome that is inherited from the N. veitchii. I've seen many different clones of N. X tiveyi floating around. The typical N. X tiveyi has a bronzish peristome and looks very N. veitchii-like. There have been other clones involving the highland striped N. veitchii crossed with other N. maximas and they look great! So there seems to be quite a bit of variation among the N. X tiveyi's out there. This is probably due to the fact that crosses of N. maxima X N. veitchii can have a lot of variation due to the variation within the parent species. Both species plants are highly variable and come in many different color forms. As more of these hybrids become available, it will interesting to compare my clone to the other seed grown specimens out there.
